Pre Operative Instructions for Crown

Eat Normally
  • ● A light meal before the appointment is usually recommended. After the procedure, you can start eating once the numbing diminishes; however, you may feel uncomfortable while eating right after the procedure due to the numbing.

  • ● It is better to avoid chewing gum or sticky foods before your appointment.

Medications

  • ● Take your regular medications as directed unless you are instructed to stop.
  • ● Take all the prescribed antibiotics and special medications for the appointment as directed by your dentist.

Oral Hygiene

  • ● Follow your regular brushing and flossing routine before coming for the appointment. Maintaining a good oral care routine will help reduce the risk of infections.

  • ● Make sure you don’t use any whitening toothpaste before your appointment because it usually doesn't have any impact on your new restorations.

Health Updates

  • ● If you are unwell, have a cold, flu, any medical condition like heart disease, or are pregnant, please inform your dentist before the appointment.

  • ● It is advised to inform your dental caregiver if you are allergic to any medication or any dental material.

Temporary Crowns/Bridges

  • ● If this is your preparation visit, we will place a temporary crown or bridge. It is designed to protect your tooth while the final restoration is being created.

  • ● We will provide you with care instructions for your temporary crown or bridge during your appointment.

Avoid Smoking and Alcohol

  • ● It is advised to avoid smoking and drinking alcohol at least 24 hours before the appointment. Both smoking and alcohol hurt your healing and your body’s response to the procedure.

What to Expect During the Appointment

  • ● Local anesthesia is usually used to numb the site of the procedure and also ensure the comfort of the patient.
  • ● We will shape the tooth or teeth, take digital or traditional impressions, and fit a temporary crown or bridge if required
  • ● The final crown, which is manufactured in the dental lab, will be fitted during your second visit.

Aftercare and Next Steps

  • The guide to care for the temporary crown or bridge will be provided at the end of your appointment. The aftercare instructions include: to avoid food that is hard, chewy, or sticky, ways to clean around the temporary crown/bridge, and what to do if your crown/bridge loosens. Our dentists at temple tx will also schedule a follow-up appointment to fit your final crown or bridge.
