  • Prescribed Medicines: If we have prescribed any painkillers, then take them only. But, if you are feeling allergic to it, like rashes or itching after having it it means you are allergic to it. In this case, you can take another painkiller that you take for body pain.

  • Swelling: Pain & swelling after a root canal are considered normal. To manage swelling, you can try home remedies like applying a cold compress for 15 to 20 minutes for 2 to 3 times a day. Also, when lying down, put 2 pillows so you will be elevated. And, it will get better..

  • Flossing: Start flossing after 1 day of treatment

  • Mouthwash: If we have prescribed any mouthwash wash then use that one; otherwise, rinse your mouth with warm salt water, and you are good to go. These rinsing with salt water help in reducing swelling as well.

Eating Guide:



For 1 to 2 days, you need to be careful about eating. This helps in protecting the tooth and the temporary filling. The care is to eat from the opposite side of the treated area and use soft foods at the start. Food that is crunchy, hard or sticky is not suitable. Prefer soft yet well-balanced soft foods. It includes mashed potatoes, yogurt, bananas, and many other foods. Eating nutritious food will help in recovery. The drawback of eating hard food is that it can dislodge the temporary if bitten down too hard.
