A non-invasive alternative to traditional veneers is called no-prep veneers. These types of veneers have become very popular in the minimally invasive cosmetic industry because they do not require any aggressive tooth shaving.

Owing to their more conservative nature, many patients find them more comfortable. However, not every patient is a suitable candidate for these types of veneers.

Understanding No prep Veneers

You must have heard of dental veneers and are considering getting one. To disguise chipped, discolored, cracked, or broken teeth, dentists often suggest these types of veneers to their patients.

To improve the appearance, your dentist will apply thin shell veneers made up of porcelain or a composite material to the front of your teeth.

Since veneers are a permanent solution, your dentist in temple tx may take some time to prepare your tooth for them. To prepare your teeth to hold the veneers, your dentist will grind or remove some of the enamel. The veneers are then attached to the front of the tooth.

Who Is A Good Candidate For No Prep Veneers?

If you want to improve the appearance of your smile, then no-prep veneers are recommended for you. They are a suitable option for conditions like:

  • ● Small teeth are also called Microdontia.
  • ● In Moderate diastema (gap) closure. Slightly worn teeth.
  • ● Mildly misaligned, crooked, crowded or cracked teeth.
  • ● Slightly discoloured teeth.

However, your tooth structure must be strong enough to hold the veneers properly. You are not an ideal candidate for veneers if your tooth is badly damaged.

What’s The Procedure For No Prep Veneers?

For no prep veneers, local anesthesia is not needed because they do not require extensive tooth preparation. Moreover, the process for the application of no-prep veneers is as follows:

  • 1- Initially, your teeth will be sculpted or shaped with wax and resins.
  • 2- The material to take the tooth impression i.e alginate is taken into the moulding tray.
  • 3- The tray is placed against the teeth and gums for about 3-4 minutes.
  • 4- After receiving the impression the lab will take few weeks to prepare the veneers.
  • 5- To check the fitting , the veneers are then attached to the teeth.
  • 6- If the fitting is good, then the veneers are permanently attached to the teeth using acid.
  • 7- To promote adhesion, silane is applied to the veneers.
  • 8- To fix the veneers, cement is applied to the teeth.
  • 9- Once fixed, the excess cement is then brushed off.

The whole process usually takes 2-3 appointments to complete. Only tooth impressions are taken in the first appointment. However, if required, tooth shaving is usually done before taking impressions. This usually does not take too long.

The fitting of the veneers is checked in the second appointment. If the fitting is good, they are placed then and there. However, you may have to come back again if any adjustments are needed. Every appointment usually takes an hour or so.

Conclusion

Most people prefer no prep veneers as they are marketed as easy and quick to improve your smile and do not require major dental work. Well its try in some cases but a tooth preparation still requied depending on the ondition and shape of your teeth. Its an easy way but not a durable one. They may not last as traditional ones and may not work if your teeth are badly damaged.
