Post Operative Instructions For Deep Cleaning Eating Or Drinking

Until the numbness from anesthesia is gone, avoid eating anything; this way, you can mistakenly bite your lips, tongue, or cheeks. Avoid hard food that will put pressure on biting, and eat from the opposite side. You can start a regular diet slowly after 2 days. If it is still feeling uncomfortable, wait for a bit longer.

Pros and Cons of Deep Cleaning Teeth

Soreness

You might experience soreness after the anesthesia wears off, because we have reached the deep areas of your gums that were infected. Also, you can expect soreness where the local anesthesia was given. But, dont worry, it will subside on its own. In most cases, soreness will be resolved after taking ibuprofen for 3-4 days. If you can not take ibuprofen for any reason, then you can take the regular medicine you take for headaches or body aches.

Healing

For healing, we might prescribe medications, but as a home remedy, water rinses work best. The method is easy enough that you can even do it even if you're getting late for work. Mix half a tablespoon of salt into a full glass of water, rinse for 30 seconds, and you are done. Do this 2 to 3 times a day, and it will kill bacteria, promote overall healing, and help in relieving soreness. Dont increase the salt amount as it can give negative effects like dryness or redness. You can continue this even if you are feeling fine.

Smoking

Smoking can cause serious damage to healing. It is ideal to avoid it at all costs, but if you can not, then try to avoid it for the first 2-3 days. If you smoke, this can be one of the factors that need deep cleaning. So, it is best to avoid as much as possible.

Bleeding

Expect bleeding while brushing for a couple of days. It will be better once your gum heals properly. We might give you toothpaste that will help in reducing bleeding.

Sensitivity

You might feel sensitive teeth after the procedure, but it will get better after a few days. You can use Sensodyne toothpaste. Also, the dental hygienist might prescribe another toothpaste to minimize sensitivity. You can apply that at night and wash before sleeping. Furthermore, using OTC rinses like ACT can help. These prescriptions will work in normal cases, but if you are feeling intense sensitivity, then visit us and we will prescribe stronger toothpaste depending upon your condition.

Oral Hygiene Guide:

Gently brush without avoiding the treated areas. It helps in cleaning harmful bacteria and is beneficial for healing. Focusing on a good hygiene routine will give you the best results. Our dentist might demonstrate how to do cleaning at home and teach some tools for it.

Have If Prescribed:

We might prescribe antibiotics or antimicrobial rinses that will help in reducing infection and promote healing. So, if we have prescribed and completed the dose.
